5 Ways To Give Back In Chattanooga This Holiday Season

It's no secret that the holidays are going to be very different this year. If you're feeling a little bit down, consider giving yourself the gift of giving back. After all, studies show that happiness and generosity are connected.

There are so many people in need this year, you'll have no problem finding plenty of opportunities to help out. If you need some inspiration, we've got you covered. Our agents have gathered a list of some of their favorite local organizations accepting donations or looking for volunteers.

1. Chattanooga Area Food Bank: 2009 Curtain Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37406

In the 20 counties, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank serves, approximately one in eight people don't know where their next meal is coming from. The organization is part of Feeding America. As such, they're able to leverage every $1 donation into four meals! In addition, $0.97 of every dollar donated goes directly to support the organization's mission and programs. You can get involved by making a monetary donation, hosting a food drive or online fundraiser, or signing up to work as a volunteer.

2. Downside Up: 621 E 11th St., Chattanooga, TN 37403

Downside Up connects special-needs children and their families with the resources they need to grow, thrive, and inspire community acceptance. This includes tutoring, classes, camps, events, and more. Want to support this incredible cause? Make a monetary donation or volunteer to give the gift of your time and talent.

3. Chambliss Center for Children: 315 Gillespie Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37411

The Chambliss Center for Children provides 24/7 childcare and early education services to single-parent and low-income families. They also provide residential care for children who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse. In addition, the center provides transitional living to teens aging out of foster care. They're currently in need of monetary donations. They also accept gently used items for their thrift stores and have an AmazonSmile Charity Wish List. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities, from helping with things like bicycle repairs and gardening to taking temperatures during morning check-ins.

4. Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults: P.O. Box 3525, Chattanooga, TN 37404

Established 143 years ago, the Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults is one of the area's most comprehensive human services agencies. They provide crisis intervention and prevention services and counseling. Last year, the organization served more than 26,000 people. They're always accepting monetary donations and have an Amazon Wish List for those who prefer to donate items directly. There are also opportunities to volunteer for their youth programs, elder services, victim support services, and more.

5. Northside Neighborhood House: P.O. Box 4086, Chattanooga, TN 37405
